Aparna A. Shah, MD

Dr. Aparna PatelDr. Aparna A. Shah joined Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers in 2018 as a cornea, cataract and refractive surgeon. Dr. Shah was born in Canada but grew up in the beautiful state of Michigan. She graduated with honors from the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Science degree. Dr. Shah was inspired to become a Medical Doctor after her own battle with a childhood kidney disease.

After obtaining her undergraduate degree, Dr. Shah earned her four-year Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She went on to complete her four-year internship and ophthalmology residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. After four years of surgical ophthalmology training, she was one of two people in the country accepted to the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute for a surgical Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery fellowship. It was in Cleveland where she learned leading edge corneal transplant and laser vision correction surgical techniques including DMEK, DSAEK, PKP, LASIK, PRK and many more. While there, she received the Best Fellow Research Paper and Presentation Award for her work on innovative DMEK (corneal transplant) surgery techniques.

Throughout her training, Dr. Shah has authored several research publications pertaining to the field and has presented her work at numerous national ophthalmic meetings. She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

In her free time, Dr. Shah loves to travel and is extremely passionate about fitness and dance. She also enjoys spending time with her beautiful family and precious golden doodle.
