Donna James, O.D., is an ocular disease resident optometrist at Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers.
Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. James attended the University of Louisville before being accepted into the Indiana University School of Optometry through its 3+4 Early Acceptance Program. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Optometry and completed her doctoral studies at Indiana University, graduating with high honors in 2026.
While at IUSO, Dr. James completed clinical externships at Bennett & Bloom Eye Center, Mooney EyeCare, and The Villages VA Clinic in The Villages, Florida. She received several honors and awards, including the Kentucky Optometric Foundation Scholarship and the IUSO Stiney Award. In 2025, Dr. James and her team won first place in the American Academy of Optometry EssilorLuxottica Academic Challenge, a national academic competition. She also served as President of the American Optometric Student Association at IUSO, advocating for the profession at both the local and national levels.
In recognition of her academic achievement and leadership, Dr. James was chosen as President of the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society. She is also a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society, the American Optometric Association, and the Kentucky Optometric Association. Outside of eye care, Dr. James enjoys reading, traveling, and exploring new cuisines around Louisville.
