Benjamin Conwright, O.D., is an ocular disease resident optometrist at Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers, serving patients in the Louisville area.
Dr. Conwright is originally from Owensboro, KY and began his college career at the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science where he became a published co-author in the American Physiological Society. He completed his degrees from the University of Kentucky and the Lewis Honors College with summa cum laude GPA. He then pursued his Doctor of Optometry at the Indiana University School of Optometry (IUSO) where he graduated with highest honors.
While at IUSO, Dr. Conkright served as an Associate Instructor, teaching across key disciplines such as Advanced Ocular Procedures, Contact Lens, Binocular Vision, Anterior Segment, and Geometric, Visual, and Ophthalmic Optics. He completed clinical externships at the Grossnickle Eye Center, Bennett and Bloom Eye Centers, and the Yukon Hospital in Bethel, Alaska. Dr. Conkright was the recipient of multiple academic and clinical awards including the J. Pat Cummings Scholarship, Brett A. Swanda Scholarship, Kentucky Optometric Foundation Scholarship, and James D. Hunt Scholarship. He also became a Student Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
In addition to his academic accomplishments, Dr. Conkright served as the President of the American Optometric Student Association at IUSO, Vice-President of the Vision Rehabilitation Club, Secretary and Music Coordinator for the Fellowship of Christian Optometrists, and held active memberships in the Ocular Disease, Private Practice, Sports Vision, Pediatrics, and Contact Lens clubs. In 2023, he aided in the mission to provide eyecare for underprivileged children in Jamaica through his local chapter of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH).
As an Eagle Scout with a long history of excellence in leadership, Dr. Conkright was chosen as a member of the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society for his contributions to the student body and academic excellence at IUSO. He is also a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society, the American Optometric Association, the AOA+ Leadership Society, and the Kentucky Optometric Association. Outside of eyecare, Dr. Conkright enjoys reading, film, hiking, and spending time with his niece!
