VISX STAR
S4 Excimer Laser
Since each patient’s eye contains as many variations as each
human fingerprint, Dr. Bennett uses more than one laser to perform
vision correction. The VISX® STAR S4 excimer laser system is
known for producing an extremely smooth surface on the cornea after
the procedure. Smoother ablations (reshaping of the cornea) promote
faster healing and result in better visual outcomes.
VISX’s exclusive SmartBeam™ technology, also known as
variable beam technology, adjusts beam size according to treatment.
This minimizes the amount of corneal tissue that needs to be removed,
allowing Dr. Bennett to treat patients with different laser beam
sizes and shapes, determined by each patient's visual needs.
The VISX ActiveTrak™ 3D eye-tracking technology in the laser
detects and compensates for small eye movements by guiding the laser
beam to keep it centered over the treatment area. ActiveTrak is
the only system that allows the doctor to track eye movement in
three dimensions. Having the beam centered correctly on the eye
at all times helps Dr. Bennett ensure precise results. Unlike other
lasers with eye-tracking technology, ActiveTrak requires no pupil
dilation, leading to an even quicker recovery time.
Those patients with higher order aberrations may benefit from wavefront-guided
custom LASIK treatments. Higher order aberrations can affect visual
acuity or quality of vision. We can detect these aberrations with
our WaveScan™ to see if this special procedure is right for
you. Patients who qualify may end up with better vision without
glasses following their vision correction than they had with the
best glasses or contacts beforehand! The VISX STAR S4 laser is used
in conjunction with the WaveScan for CustomVue™ wavefront-guided
LASIK.
