What You Should Know About ReSTOR® Lens Implant

Seeing clearly for both distance and reading. That is something many of us could do when we were younger, but can't any more. Now there is another option to help turn back the clock and greatly decrease or eliminate your dependence on glasses. The AcrySof ReSTOR® lens implant is a new intraocular lens (IOL) that can restore clear vision for distance and near following cataract surgery.

The AcrySof ReSTOR lens uses an innovative apodized diffractive technology to provide a range of vision. It works like two lenses in one. Combining refractive technology for distance vision and apodized diffractive technology for near vision through a series of concentric rings, the ReSTOR lens allows light from both distance and near objects to focus clearly on the retina. This is something that many cataract patients would otherwise only achieve by wearing glasses.

Clinical studies have shown that 80% of those with the ReSTOR lens did not have to use glasses for any activity after surgery, while only 23% of the control group who received conventional IOLs achieved this same level of visual freedom.

The actual procedure to implant the ReSTOR lens is similar to traditional small-incision cataract surgery. Dr. Donald Bennett uses the "no needles, no stitch, no patch" surgery technique, so you are relaxed and comfortable throughout the procedure. It takes only a few minutes and is performed in an outpatient facility.

As with all technological breakthroughs, the AcrySof ReSTOR lens will work better for some patients than others. As always, a comprehensive pre-surgical evaluation is necessary before determining which lens implant will be right for you. Then, in the expert hands of an accomplished surgeon like Dr. Donald Bennett, you can discover the future of your vision and you'll like what you see.
