Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers Upgrade Laser Technology: First in Kentucky, 9th in Nation to Use New ACE Laser

Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers has upgraded the practice’s lasers used for All-Laser-LASIK, investing $400,000 for two new laser platforms. The US Food and Drug Administration recently approved the “Advanced Control Eyetracking” (ACE). Eyetracking allows lasers used during LASIK surgery to compensate for eye movements during the procedure by locking on to the eye’s unique iris pattern before the laser treatment begins, and then monitors that pattern throughout the procedure; adjusting the delivery of laser pulses to match the eye’s ever-changing position.

“ACE is the most advanced eyetracker available anywhere in the world and is a real revolution in LASIK surgery. One of the main concerns with LASIK in the past was rotation of the eye and how that resulted in less than full correction of astigmatism. The ACE virtually eliminates the worry that a second enhancement will be needed because it eliminates the cause of that problem,” said Dr. Bennett.

While most eye trackers follow only horizontal and vertical eye movements, the ACE eye tracker also tracks and adjusts to rotational eye movement during LASIK surgery. The new ACE eyetracker also doubles the speed of tracking, allowing the laser to rapidly adjust to the eye’s movements and pupil shifts that occur between light and dark setting.
