Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers Building New State of the Art Facility in South End Practice’s First Real Estate Venture to be Completed by November, 2011

Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers is breaking ground on a 24,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility at 1935 Bluegrass Avenue in the South End of Louisville on Thursday, January 27, at 2 PM. The new building will be located at the site of the former “Whitehouse” that the practice purchased from Seven Counties Services. Local dignitaries will be on-hand for the groundbreaking ceremony.

Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers will use 15,000 square feet of the new facility with the additional square footage available for lease. The new location will replace the clinic space that the practice is leasing at the Bluegrass Avenue Medical Plaza, located at 1700 Bluegrass Avenue. The current administrative offices in the DuPont Professional Towers will also relocate to the facility.

Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers is working with Stengel Hill Architecture, a Louisville based healthcare architectural firm. Through its construction manager, the company plans to invest heavily in the Louisville economy throughout the building process by using local companies as much as possible when awarding up to 20 contracts for the job.

The building will feature “green” elements including geothermal heating and air conditioning, energy efficient lighting and a green design that allows for as much natural light as possible in the two-story facility.

“We are very excited about having our corporate offices as well as clinic space for our patients in our own building. It’s been a dream of ours for many years to build in the South End where the practice started. This investment in our future and the future of our patients is another example of our long-term commitment to the community,” said Dr. Donald Bennett, ophthalmologist and founder of Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers.

The practice will continue to operate clinic space in the DuPont Professional Towers at 4010 DuPont Circle as well as locations in Jeffersonville, Carrollton, Elizabethtown and a satellite office in Glasgow, Kentucky.
