Dr. Donald Bennett recently performed the first Crystalens™ Vision Enhancement procedure in the state of Kentucky and Kentuckiana
area. Dr. Bennett was chosen by Eyeonics™, Inc., the parent
company of Crystalens™, as one of the first surgeons in the
United States to perform this procedure because of his superior surgical
skills and outcomes.
Currently, Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers is the only medical provider
in the state of Kentucky to offer the Crystalens™ as an option
for patients with cataracts. The Crystalens™ is the first, and
only, FDA approved accommodating lens that acts like the eye’s
natural lens to allow patients to focus their vision seamlessly in
the distance, up close and everywhere in between.
Unlike most current lens implants, which generally have fixed focal
lengths, Crystalens™ has the ability to move with the eye’s
focusing muscle. This muscle controls the focusing of the eye by relaxing
and contracting. Crystalens™ has “hinges” that attach
to this muscle and allow the lens to move, or accommodate, giving
patients a range of vision not previously possible with the old-style
lenses. “This is a revolutionary procedure that can
give patients back the vision of their youth,” said Dr. Bennett.
“Unlike the majority of IOL’s (intraocular lenses), the
Crystalens™ restores vision at all distances. This distinct
advantage has shown to eliminate the need for glasses or contacts
for many everyday tasks.”
In clinical trials, more than 98% of patients who received Crystalens™
implants in both eyes had uncorrected visual acuity of 20/30 or better
at distance without glasses, and could read 6 point type on a medicine
bottle; and 92% had distance visual acuity of 20/25 or better. All
enjoyed good intermediate vision one year after implantation, and
93.8% of patients surveyed said they could perform most daily activities
without glasses.
The actual Crystalens™ procedure is similar to traditional small-incision
cataract surgery. Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers uses the “no
needles, no stitch, no patch” surgery technique, so patients
are relaxed and comfortable throughout the procedure. It takes only
a few minutes and is performed in an outpatient facility.
“We are excited to offer this vision correction option to our
patients, and honored to be chosen as the state’s first and
currently exclusive provider of the Crystalens™. This procedure
takes vision correction to a whole new level. ” |
