Bennett & Bloom Eye Centers now has
a GDx Nerve Fiber Analyzer for diagnosis and management of glaucoma.
The GDx is the most advanced scanning laser system available for
determination of nerve fiber layer thickness around the optic disc.
Glaucoma damages the optic nerve, which sends the message of vision
from the eye to the brain. Previously, loss of peripheral vision
as measured by a visual field test was one of the earliest detectable
signs of glaucoma. Since up to 50% of nerve fibers can be lost before
visual field defects can be detected, this new technology can help
detect glaucoma at even earlier stages.
The GDx works through a non-dilated pupil analyzing 65,536 points
in less than a second! The test can be completed in both eyes in
just a few minutes and compares the results of each patient to a
data bank of age matched normals as well as the patient’s
previous test values. With superior sensitivity and specificity,
GDx has become standard in glaucoma detection and management.
